Siri (not her real name) is 7 years old, HIV-infected and orphaned. Yet she is one of the most energetic and positive people that we have ever met. This is her touching story.

Siri was only 2 years old when her mother died. She was HIV-infected and stopped taking her medication after Siri was born. Siri has never seen her father. He left Siri's mother when he found out she was pregnant. After Siri's mother died her grandmother, Yai, started taking care of Siri.Grandmother Yai is 72 years old and she is almost completely blind. Hence she cannot work. She receives 500 Baht support from the local government every month, which is not enough to make ends meet. Siam-Care found a sponsor for Siri. As a result, she now can go to school.

Never complains
Despite her difficult situation, Siri is a happy and outgoing girl.  She loves to play football and to dance. She never complains about her situation and is always in a good mood. Every time we visit her, Siri runs towards our staff and welcomes them with a big hug. She knows she can only go to school because of Siam-Care and expresses much gratitude. One day Siri would like to become a doctor, so that she can help HIV-infected people. Thanks to the support of our donors, this dream might come true.
